"People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe." This resonates with me. Smartly said by Simon Sinek, author and founder of the Optimism company.
My career journey could certainly be summed up as one centred around a strong fascination in a topic! It has been fuelled by an endless interest with how energy innovation and technology continuously reshape our world. As an independent PR and sales marketing consultant with over two decades of experience in the ever-changing energy sector, I am constantly intrigued by what is happening next. The energy and utilities tech sector is entirely immersive. In an industry where change is the only constant, the shift from fossil fuels to renewables like solar and photovoltaic (PV), energy dominates much of the conversation. The transition to renewable energy is also not without its challenges. Solar and wind power are inherently intermittent; sunlight and wind aren't always available, which can lead to fluctuations in power supply and even the risk of blackouts if these aren't managed adeptly. Amid these challenges, one of the most ground-breaking solutions I've encountered is the concept of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). VPPs represent a transformative approach to energy management, aggregating diverse energy resources, from residential solar arrays to large-scale battery storage, into a cohesive, responsive unit that behaves like a single power plant; but virtually! But what is the benefit of a VPP? What excites me about this technology is its dual benefit: for the environment and the economy. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, we see a significant cut in carbon emissions. Financially, it empowers the commercial and residential sector to monetise the energy they don't use (or get paid for using more). Imagine selling unused power back to the grid, turning buildings into an active, income-generating part of the energy system. This capability to trade unused energy effortlessly is a clear win-win for environmental sustainability and personal financial gain. As a 'connector' between energy tech companies and the broader market, I'm passionate about playing my part in demystifying these complex technologies and showcasing their tangible benefits. My mission is to ensure the energy sector and our target audiences grasp the full significance of these innovations. By breaking down the technical jargon and sprinkling in a dash of humour, I help stakeholders understand the crucial shift towards a more interconnected and sustainable energy landscape. We are no longer looking at a future where services like VPPs might exist; we are living in a reality where they are already making a substantial impact. These are pivotal in crafting a sustainable energy consumption and management strategy as we continue to weave more renewable sources into our grids. The technologies that can efficiently manage these sources are more crucial than ever. My work in PR and sales marketing within the energy sector is much deeper than mere business promotion. It's about championing intelligent, sustainable energy solutions to nurture our planet for future generations.
