Do we really have to exhibit, enter trade awards and attend awards ceremonies? This is a question I’m often asked by my customers and contacts.

Attending trade shows and exhibitions, entering awards, and attending award ceremonies can bring immeasurable value to your business. These events are not just a chance to showcase products and services but also provide a perfect platform for networking, gaining insights into industry trends, and establishing thought leadership.

Why am I talking about this now?

The season of events and exhibitions is well and truly upon us; I recently attended the MEUC Spring Conference and heard from several speakers, including Drax, EDF and Fujitsu.. some great discussions around Carbon removals, R&D for NetZero and cloud computing and the value of AI. It was inspiring!

All this information is critical for my business to understand new technologies and solutions and how the energy sector is moving forward. Learning about the impact on end users and, in turn, how my clients can benefit from this knowledge and formulate their solution strategies and marketing activities to promote their position in this field.

I was also recently invited by Consyst Ltd to attend the BCIA awards, where they were a finalist. It was a relaxed event that created an excellent opportunity for open 'creative' discussions, making networking valuable.

On 17 May, I'll be dropping into the Utility Week event at the NEC to see some familiar faces and what new systems and solutions are being promoted in the utility/energy market space. I'll be sitting in on a few seminars around condition-based asset management, data: harnessing the great enabler and demand reduction: behaviour change.  All with the aim of bringing back information to add further insights for my client's marketing and sales marketing strategies.

On 24 May, I'll be heading to Olympia for the InnovationZero event to hear about innovation in clean tech – I'll be sitting in on seminars around decarbonising the built environment, UK investors showcase, retrofitting the built environment and decarbonising the supply chain.

If you are popping along to these events, please do come and say hi!

But enough of why I attend, here’s why we believe you should attend trade shows, exhibitions, and awards.

  1. You should always look at it as building relationships! Attending trade shows and exhibitions can be an excellent way to generate brand awareness and connect with potential customers. These events attract diverse stakeholders, including industry experts, investors, and decision-makers from across the sector.

  1. Plus, even if you just 'turn up' - you will stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and innovations. With the advent of AI and emerging clean tech solutions, keeping your finger on the pulse is extremely important in the energy and asset management arena. With new advancements constantly emerging, you want to make sure that you are well-positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities.

  1. Another key benefit of attending industry events is the opportunity to deliver thought leadership seminars or listen in on others to gain a wider understanding of what the industry is talking about. Thought leadership is increasingly important for building brand awareness and establishing credibility in your sector. By sharing insights and expertise at industry events, you can position yourself as thought leaders in the space and build a loyal following of customers and advocates.

  1. Don't forget that these events bring together some of the industry's most innovative and forward-thinking minds, and attending them can be a powerful way to stay motivated and energised in the pursuit of success. By connecting with like-minded individuals and learning from their experiences, you can gain new perspectives and insights to help them achieve their goals and drive their business forward.

  1. Entering awards (yes, I know the entry process can be painful – but a good copywriter can help – ME!) and attending the awards ceremonies (even if you aren't shortlisted) can be a powerful tool for your business. Winning an industry award can boost your company's reputation and establish your credibility both within the industry and among potential customers. Plus, it gives you some excellent content to share, shout about and repost on social channels like LinkedIn.

  1. Attending award ceremonies can provide valuable networking opportunities. These events often attract a wide range of industry stakeholders, including industry leaders, investors, and media representatives. Attending these events can be an excellent way to connect with key players in the industry, build relationships, and gain insights into emerging trends and opportunities.
